Mothers Day

May 11, 2008

Today I was stuck at home with a sick child. She made me tea in the morning. I was very surprised. I had to get up three times to get everything right. But that was not her fault. I am very fussy about my tea. She also gave me a card she had made at school but in her own words not the poems the teacher gave them. Now I know, why they use to do that. She wrote:

Some mothers are kind
some mothers are loving
But compared to you, they are all nothing!

and: Mami! Du bist die beste! Obwohl ich meistens sauer auf dich bin. Hab einen wundervollen Mamitag.
That means: Mami, you are the best! In spite that I am cross with you most of the time. Have a wonderful Mamiday.

Nice! I made us bread with strawberry jam in our dirty kitchen and than we had a fight because she was bored and I told her not to get on my nerves. She said her favorite sentence: “You can’t make me” and I said, “I bet I can make you cry”. Eventually I gave in and got up to get her a dvd and a pack of chips. While I was at the shop I seriously doubted my motherly skills.

On my way back I saw all those fathers with their kids and dogs on the streets and imagined all the other mothers having a nice nap between their white linen sheets in their tidy homes after having had an exuberant breakfast that the whole family had prepared for them so lovingly, even the little children had helped and picked flowers in the garden and I felt sorry for me. This is the first time I can remember that I actually do care about mothers day.

When Sven and Anton came back from church at noon (we were on duty that’s why he had to go early and I stayed with Luzie which I didn’t mind at that stage) he had sand on his feet and I felt anger raising up that he had enjoyed himself at the beach on my day!

He brought me my favorite honey cake, a palm leaf and a yellow rose. Someone in a movie I had watched with Luzie the other day had said: You only give your grandma yellow roses, but I don’t care and it was sweet that he remembered that I had told him that they sell this cake at Fruit’n Vege even when it was a different cake.

We sat in the garden and he told me the whole sermon and what everyone else had said which is a big thing for any man and I agreed that we will always be happy for each other, even when we don’t have a great time ourselves.
